Hi, I am Mrs. Taylor and we will use this website for all of our communication and assignments. On this home page I will post updates and news for each week. At the top of this page you will see a tab labeled "Summer School." Under this tab you will find the assignments and links for the week. Summer school is completely virtual this year and will be a learning experience for all of us. During the next 8 weeks if you have questions or problems with the assignments please feel free to text me at 304-482-2557. I am available between the hours of 8-3 Monday thru Friday.
Each Tuesday beginning June 9 students can go to their home school and pick up a packet that will have a book and an activity that goes along with the book. We will be using the books that are included in the packets.
Iready will be available throughout the summer and if you have any questions or problems logging in please let me know. If you need a laptop, Wood County Schools are lending them to students and hotspots for internet are available at the schools.
Typical Week Schedule:
*Complete 30-40 minutes of Iready Weekly (Can do reading one week and then alternate to math the next)
*2 Weekly Zoom Meetings (Tuesday & Thursday @ 9am) * These are subject to change depending on the needs of the students. One of the meetings will focus on a math lesson and the other will focus on reading and writing. The first weeks Zoom meeting is scheduled of Tuesday June 9 at 9am and can be accessed through the link on the Summer School page.
* I will post lessons and websites throughout the week that students can access through this webpage.

Week 7
This week we are going to try something new. Since last week I posted lots of paper materials that could be printed for review, I decided this week to try an online lesson approach. My hope is that students who have internet access will be able to log on and complete the assignments and then submit them to me online. This is a trial and error so please be patient and let me know what works and what doesn't. As always, do what works best for your family and schedule. I just want to give as many options as possible.
* For those wanting to try the online option follow the directions below to log on.
* County paper packets are still available for pick up at school.
* I can still drop off anything that you may want or need. Just let me know.
* Meal pick ups are still scheduled for April 29. Same locations as last week.
For online assignments use the link below to log on to our class and complete the assignments.
Students will use their student number as their username and the password is: wood96
Log on under the "subscriber tab"
* When you reach the assignment, click the penicl/pen tab at the top right to add your answers.
*The students should also receive a letter in the mail this week with directions on how to access "XtraMath." These are short lessons that students can complete online. They can access these directly from xtramath.org or go to their clever page and I have added the link.

Week 6
I have decided that this week we will start a year review. This will be a great review to prepare the students for return or a great review before the summer, whichever comes first. Each week I will start posting packets that cover almost all the first grade standards that we have covered or would have covered this last nine weeks.
If you would like me to drop you off a paper copy, please PM and I will get those to you. I will post some refresher videos on the reading and math pages to help review the skills as well.
Thank you for you patience during this crazy time.
** Meal box pickups are scheduled for the same sites and times as last week.
** Prepared county packets are still available at the school
** Please continue to use the resources that best fit your schedule and family.

Week 4
Happy Easter Week...
* Again this week you can pick up the county packets that are outside of every school.
* Continue to get the packets from this site and use the online resources.
A good recommendation for students in 1st grade is 30-60 minutes of lessons a day. As a parent I understand that its not always possible to get a lesson in each day and thats okay. Use the resources however they work best for you. If you need something that I don't have posted or you want something that you can't find, please let me know.

Week 3
Another week down.. This week we have lots of choices for instruction.
* Continue to get the packets from this site and use the online resources. (Check the tabs at the top for more resources)
* Pick up a packet from the school (each school and grade get the same packet county wide)
* Do a little from each
I am still checking Iready lessons and the students are doing a great job. Under the reading tab I have included a link with a complete lesson with several books the students can listen too and read. I also have downloaded several new guided reading books with some activities for each book. For math, keep working on the Iready lessons. Try to complete one lesson with a the quiz daily and if you want extra practice/review you can download and complete the math pages. Practice reading analog and digital clocks and counting out money. Also, this is a great time to practice tying your shoes.
If you need anything please let me know. You can always call/text 304-482-2557 or by email at [email protected]. I will continue to update on the class Facebook page and class DOJO.

***A message from Superintendent Hosaflook regarding instructional packets.***
Due to the stay-at-home order announced beginning last night at 8 PM, Wood County Schools will not be distributing new instructional packets on Thursday, March 26. Previously completed instructional packets should be held until further notice. Due to the increased emphasis on social distancing, we have limited our staff from buildings so teachers do not have access to the buildings to create instructional packets for students. Keeping everyone healthy is of my utmost concern so continuing to take measures for social distancing is necessary.
Therefore, beginning next week on Tuesday, March 31, there are two options for student work: 1) stay the course online or 2) stop by a school and pick up a packet of “Learning Engagement Activities.”
If you have internet access, please continue to stay connected with your teachers through our electronic platforms https://wcsinnovate.com/learnathome/ or LiveGrades. If you are connecting with teachers online, I ask that you stay the course. If your child is taking an AP or a Dual Credit course for college credit, the assignments are only provided online. Contact your teacher or school administrator if you are taking an AP or Dual Credit course and have not connected with your teacher.
For families that do not have internet or electronic devices, we will be providing “Learning Engagement Activities” at all schools Tuesday – Thursday from 9 AM – 3 PM. “Learning Engagement Activities” will be outside of your child’s school and available for students PreK – Grade 12. “Learning Engagement Activities” will be the same at all school sites by grade-level and/or content area. “Learning Engagement Activities” meet the West Virginia Standards for the grade-level/content area and are aligned with the adopted curriculum.
Moving from instructional packets to “Learning Engagement Activities” was an extremely difficult decision. Ideally, we would like online instruction to match instructional packets but in these critical times, we need to make a temporary adjustment for the safety and health of everyone.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as our plans continue to be modified for everyone's health and safety. During the stay-at-home order, I hope you and your family are healthy and safe.

Effective March 19, 2020
Week 1
Packets are available to pick up at school on Thursday from 11-12:30. Please listen for an ALL CALL for more information on how to get your packets.
For this first week of home learning teachers were instructed to make a packet with review materials of worksheets so that all students have access to learning regardless of internet availability. In the first grade packet the teachers collaborated and came up with materials that the students were familiar with and wouldn't need much instruction from parents. Some students will be able to complete these independently, while others will need more assistance with instructions and may need some material read to them.
My plan is to add weekly assignments and activities that can be accessed through the internet instead of the paper packets. It will be your choice as to which you would prefer to receive. If you wish to communicate and receive only the internet assignments and activities please email me on class DOJO or through my email at [email protected]. If I do not hear from you then I will continue to prepare the paper packets to be picked up on Thursdays. If at any time you wish to switch please let me know. My goal is to make this process the easiest and most efficient for everyone.
